FWC, Coast Guard Auxiliary to train scouts on boating safety
News Release
To kick off National Safe Boating Week, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) and the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary have teamed up to train approximately 100 pre-registered local Boy and Girl Scouts on boating safety.
The youngsters will climb aboard FWC vessels and receive hands-on instruction on tying knots, reading navigation lights, using proper signals and learning what is required to successfully pass a vessel check. After successfully completing the course, the Scouts will receive a "Boat Smart" book so they can study on their own and take the test required to obtain a Boating Safety Education ID card.
The free training takes place Saturday, May 22, at John U. Lloyd Beach State Park in Hollywood from 9 a.m. to noon.
